Facebook-owned photo-sharing platform Instagram is testing a new way to share links in stories through stickers.
The users with a verified account or with more than 10,000 followers could already share links with a swipe-up gesture.
According to The Verge, Instagram is now running a test to give all users the option to add URL links to Stories through linked stickers. The product head Vishal Shah said that “it’s mostly to learn how people might take advantage of links”.
Shah said that stickers fit more into the current way people use the platform, so this test “brings links into the same kind of overall system, which from a simplicity of system perspective, also makes a lot of sense”.
These stickers will operate the same way a swipe-up link does, except with a tap instead of a swipe.
Users will also be able to respond to stories that include a sticker, which they can’t currently do with stories that have a swipe up.
The test from Instagram seems mostly targeted at people who have found a voice and reach on the platform but not to the levels that allow them to share a link.
Instagram only allows a certain set of users to post links through stickers. There is no information on when Instagram will conduct a rollout for all its users.
